Jiří Havrlant
Jiří Havrlant, a pianist and master of early keyboard instruments, embarked on a musical journey rooted in classical traditions. Graduating from Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava with a focus on classical piano, he cultivated his craft and set the stage for a lifelong exploration of the keys.
Further studies at Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, under the guidance of Prof. Barbara Maria Willi, exposed Jiří to the timeless allure of early music. International masterclasses, featuring luminaries such as Ton Koopman, Jörg Andreas Bötticher, Béatrice Martin, Pieter Jan Belder, Menno van Delft, Jacques Ogg, Marek Toporowski, Aline Zylberajch, Monika Knoblochová and Edita Keglerová, enriched his musical perspective.
A year-long Erasmus stint at Royal Conservatoire in The Hague allowed Jiří to delve into the nuances of the harpsichord and fortepiano under the guidance of Fabio Bonizzoni and Bart van Oort.
Competitions became chapters in his story, with accolades at the Bohuslav Martinů Competition marking his mastery, including a special prize for Viktor Kalabis's composition in 2016 and the most successful participant award in 2021, alongside the first prize. Among other competitions, Jiří's experiences include winning the 1st prize and a special award at the La Stavaganza Early Music Competition in Cluj-Napoca in 2019 and the 1st prize at the Competition of The Summer School of Baroque music in Holešov in 2020. He participated also at the Prague Spring Competition in 2017 or Bach Wettebewerb Leipzig in 2018.
Beyond competitions and besides his solo carrier, Jiří's musical journey intertwines with ensembles like Collegium Marianum, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra or Prague Chamber Soloists. Collaborating with traverso soloist Michaela Ambrosi, the duo Musica Neglecta emerged, a testament to their shared reverence for historical soundscapes. Jiří is also a stable member of Drei Engel Ensemble.
Taking on the role of an educator, Jiří began imparting his wisdom at Janáček Conservatoire in Ostrava, extending his pedagogical touch to Prague Conservatoire in 2020.
His own academic chapters currently continue at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where he studies under the guidance of Francesco Corti.
In December 2023, Jiří Havrlant unveiled his debut album featuring music by Bach under the label Soleil et Pluie, marking his musical skills and dedication to creating unique and memorable experiences.
